Cheddar & Black Pepper Biscuits
Truly the simplest way to “wow”
If you’re not a “baker” fear not! These are too simple to mess up, I promise.
I was making a chicken stew and wanted some type of biscuit to go along with it and decided to put these together. I was truly shocked by how simple and fast they were to assemble. I am such a sucker for a savoury delight that stars cheddar and black pepper, so I decided to make those the flavours shine and I was not disappointed! These are such an easy crowd pleaser and look like a lot more work than they are.
Let’s go shopping.
Biscuits
2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp paprika
1 tsp sugar
2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 cup milk (I used lactose free 2%)
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Topping
2 tsp butter, melted
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Notes: Feel free to swap any of the seasonings and the cheese (e.g. a mozza would work just fine and you can tone down the pepper if that suits your taste!)
Pre-heat your oven to 425C.
Mix the dry ingredients together
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, sugar and black pepper.
Add the wet ingredients
To your dry ingredients, slowly add the milk stirring to combine. Then, add the melted butter, and mix just enough to combine (try not to overmix). It’ll be a sticky/wet dough and that’s just right!
Fold in the cheese
Gently fold in the cheese until fully incorporated.
It’ll look like this when done. See! I told you it was easy.
Bake the biscuits
Using an ice cream scoop, or a 1/4 cup measuring spoon, plop the biscuits on your prepared baking sheet about 2 inches from one another (they won’t spread too much). The recipe should make about 12.
Bake for 12-14 minutes at 425, until golden brown.
While the biscuits are baking, mix together the melted butter and garlic powder.
Toasty little beauties!
Top with garlic butter & serve
Once out of the oven, lightly brush each biscuit with the melted butter & garlic powder mixture.
Enjoy!
Ooey gooey goodness.
