Simple Pizza Dough

If you have a fear of pizza dough, there is no need! This recipe works every time, is minimal effort and you probably have everything you need in your pantry. Makes enough for one large pizza.

Let’s go shopping.

  • 2 and 1/4 cups of all purpose flour (put the 1/4 on the side)

  • 1 package of yeast, preferably instant (2 and 1/4 tsp)

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 3/4 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • 2 tbsp olive oil + additional for proofing

  • 3/4 cup warm water

If using regular yeast, proof it

If you’re using instant, no problem. Mix the package of yeast along with the 3/4 cup of warm water and stir to combine. Let rest for about 3-5 minutes, you’ll start to notice some bubbles forming on top.

Combine ingredients

In a mixer with a dough hook, add 1 cup flour, sugar, salt, garlic powder, oregano and instant yeast and stir to combine. Next add the 2 tbsp olive oil and water (or, if using regular yeast, add the water/yeast mixture at this point). Mix very well to combine. Slowly add the remaining 1 cup of flour, 1/4 cup at a time. If your dough seems too stick, slowly add more (you may need an additional 1/4 cup). If the dough feels too dry, add a tsp or so of olive oil.

Once completed, the dough should be sticky, but manageable when working with your hands. Transfer to an olive oil coated bowl and drizzle a small amount of olive oil on top of the dough. Cover with plastic wrap, followed by a tea towel and place the bowl in a warm part of your kitchen or home.

Let rise for about 30 minutes, until doubled in size.

Enjoy!

Gorgeous risen dough!
